Successful Revitalization of The Downtown Historic District in Cohoes Continues
Federal and State Tax Credits at work to rebuild communities
After buying the historic Germania Hall building at 65 Remsen Street in Cohoes and successfully rehabbing the apartments and storefront, Zephyr Preservation Studio, LLC began work in the storefront space in January 2015. Now that renovations to the former LaMarche store are complete and certified according to the Historic Preservation Tax Incentive, the time to host an Open House has come so that the new space can be shared with Cohoes and the local community.
Zephyr Preservation Studio, LLC is proud to be part of the revitalization of the Historic Downtown District on Remsen Street. “I was so excited to find a historic building that I could bring back from foreclosure and help the City of Cohoes improve Remsen Street,” says Sarah C. Stevens, owner. She goes on “I had so much help from the local community – the Cohoes Local Development Corporation, The Community Loan Fund, and the Al Tech Loan Fund from the Capital Region Chamber were all instrumental in helping me finance this project.” In addition to the loans, another beneficial tool were the Federal and State Tax Credits available for historic buildings. Up to 40% of qualifying expenses for the rehabilitation project can be recouped with the tax credits.
